On Wednesday April 13th I officially registered my candidacy for the 2022 election. It’s hard to describe the feelings I had as I did it. Joy and fear at the same time. My eldest daughter Madeline went with me to register. It felt fitting since her existence is what put me on the road to a legal career. I was a business consultant traveling all over the US when I found out I was pregnant with her. I’ve never been afraid of hard work, but I wanted to be able to put my head on a pillow every night under the same roof as her so I needed to change jobs. That led me to the law and eventually my own business. She has grown up playing under my desk, working in my law office, and is now helping run my campaign.

My children have truly been the inspiration for many of the choices I’ve made in my career. I’ve also tried to set a good example for them as I have practiced law with the cases I take and the fights I fight. I’ve tried to walk my talk of “being the change” so they had someone to look to as a positive example always. I’m far from perfect but I always strive to do what is right. I hope as we move through this campaign, I’m able to set an example for them of kindness and professionalism in politics.

I’m running because I believe the people of Canadian County need a choice in their judges. I don’t believe any elected official is entitled to their job, much less a judge. I believe Judges need to be strong leaders who are not afraid to make hard decisions that may make people mad. I believe we need judges who use their own mind to interpret the law, not judges who do what others tell them to do.

Over the next 7 and a half months we are going to be talking about a lot of hard things. We will touch on sensitive and complex subjects involving childhood abuse and trauma, parental rights, leadership, and finances. As we move through this process, I promise that even as we have these hard discussions I will work hard to stay above the political fray. I will be kind and professional in my criticism and I ask my supporters to do the same. Together we can challenge the incumbent without engaging in personal attacks. We are better than that. Thank you for your support and I look forward to this journey with you!
